Roblox Account Hacked and Email Changed: How to Recover It
Last updated: October 2026
You log in and everything is different — wrong email, wrong password, your inventory picked clean. It's a sick feeling, and it happens to thousands of Roblox players every week. Here's the honest, step-by-step path to getting your account back, based on Roblox's own published process and what the player community has learned the hard way.
Step 0: Secure your device before you do anything else
This sounds counterintuitive when your instinct is to race through recovery, but it matters more than anything. Most Roblox thefts start on the victim's own machine — a malicious browser extension, a "free Robux" link, or a cookie stealer that lets the thief log in as you without ever needing your password.
- Run a full malware/virus scan. Use a real antivirus product and let it finish a complete scan, not just a quick one.
- Remove any browser extensions you don't recognize — especially ones added recently or promising Robux, cheats, or "free" anything.
- Don't log back into Roblox from that device until it's clean. Players have recovered their accounts only to watch the hacker steal everything again within days because the malware was still there.
Step 1: Try the quick route first
If the hacker hasn't actually changed the email or phone on the account, you may be back in within minutes:
- Go to the Roblox login page and click "Forgot Password or Username?"
- Enter the verified email address or phone number on the account.
- Roblox will send a 6-digit SMS code or a password reset link. Follow it, set a new password, and you're in.
If you get the reset and it works, congratulations — but skip ahead to the lockdown steps at the bottom anyway, because the attacker may still have a way back in. If the email and phone were both changed, this route is dead, and that's where the rest of this guide comes in.
Step 2: Contact Roblox support with the "Account Hacked" form
This is the real path for the email-changed case. Go to roblox.com/support and fill out the contact form:
- Under Help Category, choose "Account Hacked or Can't Log In".
- For the subcategory, choose "Account Hacked" — or "Two-Step Verification" if the attacker changed your 2-step verification settings.
- Enter the original email address — the first one ever added to the account — in the contact field. Do not enter the hacker's new email, and don't use a random spam account. Roblox's official guidance is that they can see the original email even after the attacker changed it, and contacting them from it (or from the billing email used for your first purchase) is the strongest identity signal you can give.
- Enter your username exactly as it was.
- In the description, write a clear factual account: when you lost access, what changed (email, password, inventory), and what you've already tried. Calm and specific beats angry and vague — support staff are humans reading a queue.

Step 3: Gather your proof before support asks
Roblox will almost certainly ask you to prove you're the real owner. Here's what carries weight, strongest first — gather as much of it as you can while you wait:
- Purchase receipts — especially the very first one. Order numbers or invoice IDs for Robux or Premium bought by credit card, PayPal, Google Play, Apple App Store, or Xbox. Support has reportedly asked specifically for the first-ever receipt on the account, so dig up your earliest purchase, not just last week's.
- The original email address — the first email ever added, or the billing email used for the very first payment.
- Old passwords you used on the account.
- The approximate date you created the account.
- The device you normally play on, and where you made purchases.
- Supporting evidence: screenshots of your past inventory, previous usernames, previous device types, the last date you logged in successfully.
How long does Roblox recovery take?
Roblox publishes no guaranteed timeline, so don't trust anyone who promises you a date. Based on community reporting:
- Initial replies often arrive within a few days.
- The community wiki suggests allowing up to a week for a staff response.
- Full restoration cases commonly take 1 to 3 weeks.
- Escalations to the account restoration team have been reported at roughly 1 to 10 business days.
Check your email daily, including spam. Every back-and-forth with support resets your place in their attention queue, so answer thoroughly and promptly.
The 30-day deadline, explained plainly
This is the number one thing players miss. Roblox's policy allows restoration of lost items or Robux (or their approximate value) only if you report the compromise within 30 days. After that, it's almost certainly gone. And even within the window, restoration is not guaranteed — community reporting suggests it's a one-time event, so treat it as your single shot.
Once you're back in: lock it down
- Set a strong, unique password — one you've never used on any other site.
- Go to Settings > Security and use "Sign Out of All Other Sessions." This kills the hacker's active sessions.
- Re-enable 2-Step Verification and keep your backup codes somewhere safe.
- Check your email and inventory for anything the attacker changed while in control.
