Fortnite Account Hacked and Email Changed: How to Recover It
Last updated: October 2026
Your Fortnite account is really an Epic Games account — and the hacker knows it. If they've changed the email on your Epic account, your locker, your V-Bucks, and every game tied to that login all go with it. Here's exactly how Epic's official recovery process works, what to gather before you touch the form, and the one rule that trips almost everyone up: the recovery request is one-shot. You get one submission, so you prepare first.
Step 0: Secure your email first — everything depends on it
Epic themselves call the account email "the key" to the Epic account. If you've lost access to that email too, stop here and recover the mailbox with your email provider first — changing your email password, enabling 2FA on the mailbox, and checking for forwarding rules the attacker may have added. Every recovery path below loops through your email, so a compromised inbox makes the whole exercise pointless.

Step 1: Try the self-service routes
- On the Epic sign-in page, choose "Trouble signing in?" and enter the account email for a password reset. This only works if you still control that email — if the attacker changed it, you'll get nothing.
- Try signing in with a linked platform account — PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Facebook, or Google. If one of those still lets you in, that's progress.
Step 2: Gather everything before touching the recovery form
Here is the most important rule of Epic recovery: the form is one-shot. Once you hit submit, you cannot add information later. Gather all of this first:
- Your Epic account ID, or a purchase invoice / transaction ID. An invoice ID from an Epic Games Store purchase receipt is the strongest proof you can hand them — it starts with the letter "A" followed by digits and sits at the top of your receipt. Xsolla receipts (used for many in-game purchases) show a transaction number instead.
- Every email address and display name the account has ever used. Not just the current ones — all of them, as far back as you remember.
- The name and country you entered when the account was created.
- The 2FA phone number on the account, if you had one.
- Linked console accounts — PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch — and roughly when you connected them.
- Payment methods used on the account (card type/last digits, PayPal, etc.).
Fields you genuinely don't know can be skipped — but anything you do know and leave out is lost to this submission forever. Spend the hour. Dig through old email for receipts now.
Step 3: Submit Epic's official account recovery request
Go to epicgames.com/help and find the account recovery request (Epic's help center walks through the can't-log-in path). Fill it in with everything you gathered above, double-check every field, and submit. There is no alternative channel — recovery requests go through this form, full stop. Never use a third-party "recovery" link or site; they are scams or phishing.
Step 4: Once you're back in
- Reset your password to something unique and never reused.
- Turn two-factor authentication back on — the attacker almost certainly disabled it.
- Re-link your accounts and review what's connected. If you see linked accounts you don't recognize, submit a support ticket — don't just shrug at them.
- Check your purchase history and locker for anything the attacker bought, gifted, or removed while in control.
Hard truths about Epic recovery
- You cannot add information after submitting. This bears repeating because it's the single biggest reason recovery requests fail: people rush the form, get rejected, and can't fix it.
- Your email is the battlefield. An attacker who controls your email can intercept the recovery process itself. Securing the mailbox isn't a bonus step — it's the foundation.
- No one can recover the account for you. Anyone offering paid Fortnite account recovery is running a scam. The official process is free.
